Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why am I sometimes denied access to material I am trying to reach through this website?

Sometimes, this site takes you to the campus Intranet (Employee Dashboard). Ordinarily, you get access through My Chemeketa, however, to make it easier we link you directly to the Employee Dashboard site. The reason a password is required is because this website links to Chemeketa's Intranet which is available to Chemeketa employees, but not to the general public. Therefore, whenever you use the website from an off-campus computer, the password is required for reasons of confidentiality.

2. Sometimes when I get to my class, the media equipment I ordered is not there. How can I get immediate assistance?

For the Salem Campus, call Media Delivery at 503.399.2544. If you are off-campus, you will need to discuss options with your supervisor.

 3. A student in my class has told me he has a disability and needs a special accommodation such as increased time for tests. I am not sure this would be fair to the rest of the students. What should I do?

The Americans with Disabilities Act specifies what is required by federal law. Please, immediately contact Disabilities Services at 503.399.5192, Bldg. 2, Rm. 174. Because this law is complicated and there is potential liability for the College, it is extremely important that you work with the Disabilities Services Office.

4. I've heard of the Opportunity Center. What is it and in what ways can it be useful to me as a part-time faculty member?

The Opportunity Center is a resource for faculty on all aspects of teaching and learning. It provides a centralized resource center (9/104 - Salem campus), frequent activities and trainings, individual consultation with faculty, models of assessment, and opportunities for faculty networking. It also offers assistance with syllabus construction and offers teaching tips and strategies. Call 503.399.5232 or e-mail opportunitycenter@chemeketa.edu for more information. Some of the activities and trainings are designed specifically for part-time faculty, while others are open to part-time and full-time faculty alike.

8. I am having trouble with a student in class who talks at inappropriate times and is generally disruptive. Any advice on how to handle this?

9. If I have car trouble on campus, can I get help on campus?

Help in calling a friend, a tow truck, or a locksmith if you locked your keys in the car. (Public Safety does not unlock vehicles.)

Public Safety can be reached at 503.399.5023 or by picking up the receiver of any red phone. Red phones, which are direct links to Public Safety, are located on the Salem Campus in Buildings 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 22, and 50.
